Any substantial home improvement grant needs time to build to capacity. Installers need time to train staff and the necessary materials supply train takes time to establish. It didn’t help that the admin side of the grant application process was dogged by incompetence from the outset. Why was it outsourced to an American company?
Installers have been caught before with such schemes and began to refuse to accept Green Homes Voucher work fearful their money would be very slow to be paid.
This is now the third time such schemes have crashed. It is about time the Government learnt that such schemes need to be set up carefully with proper consultation with the industry and also talking to likely recipients so problems can be anticipated.
Closing the scheme at just three days notice has made the Government look a laughingstock. Are their plans to make the U.K. world leaders in carbon reduction really true or is it just more green wash?
The U.K. housing stock is mostly old and very poor in terms of energy efficiency. Even 80’s build homes often have a lowly D energy efficiency rating. It will take years to bring them up modern standards. If the scheme is replaced PLEASE DO IT PROPERLY NEXT TIME.
